Community Impact

initiative partner

The Downtown Yakima Mile has selected to support the YAKIMA SCHOOL DISTRICT on their COMMUNITY SCHOOLS VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM

Research has shown that the behavior patterns established during youth determine young people’s current physical and mental health status and their risk for developing chronic diseases during adulthood.

Studies show children who are unsupervised after school are:

  • In danger of being victims of crimes or accidents.

  • At higher risk for for substance abuse, gang involvement, teen pregnancy and dropping out of school.

Yakima School District is working hard to avoid these pitfalls and reaping the benefits of a quality free of charge after school programs - evidence based programs like theirs keep kids safe, inspire them to learn, and be active and help working families.

The programs goal is to provide Yakima School Districts 16,000 students with a structured and safe place to hang out after school and prevent violence before it starts. Students can participate in sports, activities and tutoring until 6:00 p.m.

The Downtown Yakima Miles partnership with Yakima School Districts Violence Prevention - Positive Youth Development program, will have a positive impact on the children and families of today, but also the future for us all. Registrants will be able to donate a sum of their choice during the registration process. It is our sincere hope that can join us!
